ARDEX CL 30
Description
Product Overview
ARDEX CL 30 is an economical cement-based levelling and smoothing compound designed to prepare internal concrete substrates before the installation of floorcoverings.
It produces a smooth, high-quality surface suitable for broadloom carpet, carpet tiles, sheet vinyl, LVT, LVP, vinyl composite, rubber flooring, floating timber, direct-stick timber and selected coating systems.
ARDEX CL 30 can be applied from 3–30mm in one application. Where a deeper build is required, it may be extended with ARDEX 2–5mm aggregate to achieve thicknesses up to 40mm.
The compound may be installed manually using a gauging rake and smoothing tools or pumped across larger floor areas, subject to confirmation of pump compatibility.
Once applied, the surface is walkable in approximately 3–4 hours. Floorcovering installation times vary according to the covering type, application thickness and site conditions.

- Internal above-grade or below-grade applications where the substrate is dry and appropriately protected from moisture
Notes
- Ensure the substrate is solid, clean, dry and free from wax, grease, curing compounds, sealers, laitance and other contaminants
- Mechanically prepare concrete using grinding, shot blasting, scarifying, shaving or another suitable method
- Do not use acid etching, solvents or sweeping compounds to prepare the subfloor
- The subfloor must be dry in accordance with AS 1884 and have an intact vapour barrier
- Maintain a minimum subfloor temperature of 10°C during installation
- Prime standard porous concrete with ARDEX P 51 diluted one part primer to two parts water
- Very absorbent concrete may require two applications of ARDEX P 51 at the dilution ratios specified in the current TDS
- Prime suitable non-porous substrates with ARDEX P 9 or ARDEX P 82
- Mix one 20kg bag with 4.1–4.3L of clean water
- Mix for approximately 2–3 minutes using a suitable paddle and heavy-duty electric drill operating at approximately 650rpm
- Do not use concrete mixers or hand mixing methods
- Pour the mixed compound onto the prepared subfloor and spread using an adjustable gauging rake
- Use a stand-up spreader or hand trowel where required to smooth the surface
- Do not rework the compound after approximately 10 minutes
- Where an additional layer is required, allow the previous layer to harden and prime with ARDEX P 51 before recoating
- For applications above 30mm, mix the compound normally before adding approved 2–5mm aggregate
- Do not use as a finished trafficable floor surface
- Do not use in areas subject to constant water exposure, permanent moisture or intermittent substrate moisture
- Consult ARDEX Technical Services where damp or green concrete, underfloor heating, metal, timber or other special substrates are involved

ARDEX CL 30 is designed as an economical contract leveller for general internal floor preparation over dry concrete substrates.
For standard applications, it may be installed from 3–30mm in one layer. Where thicknesses up to 40mm are required, ARDEX 2–5mm aggregate may be added at up to an equal weight of the CL 30 powder after the powder and water have first been mixed.
Drying time depends on the floorcovering type, application thickness, temperature and humidity. Carpet and floating timber may be installed from approximately 24 hours, resilient flooring from approximately 48 hours and direct-stick timber from approximately 72 hours under the stated test conditions.
ARDEX CL 30 is an underlayment and must be covered with a suitable floorcovering or compatible finished flooring system. It is not intended to remain as the final exposed floor surface.
