PRODUCT OVERVIEW

F. Ball Stopgap 600

Description

Product Overview

F. Ball Stopgap 600 is designed for projects where the subfloor needs a substantial increase in height before new flooring is installed.

Typical uses include rebuilding floor levels after removing thick tiles and adhesive beds, or bringing adjoining floors to a consistent height during refurbishment and extension work.

The dimensionally stable formulation is designed for deeper applications, helping control the separation and thermal movement that can affect standard smoothing compounds when applied too thickly.

Once set, Stopgap 600 must receive a compatible finishing layer before floorcoverings are installed. This allows the base layer to provide the required depth while the selected smoothing compound provides the final installation surface.

Key Features

  • Deep-section formulation for raising subfloor levels
  • 5–75mm application range under the April 2026 UK specification
  • Suitable for light to heavy-duty internal floors
  • Compatible with prepared absorbent and non-absorbent substrates
  • Dimensionally stable after application
  • Water-mixed powder
  • Suitable for manual or pump installation
  • Low-odour, protein-free formulation
  • EC1 Plus very low-emission classification
  • Designed to receive a compatible Stopgap finishing compound

Applications

  • Raising internal subfloor levels before new flooring
  • Building up floors after removing thick tiles or adhesive beds
  • Matching floor heights between adjoining areas
  • Deep-section preparation in refurbishment projects
  • Application over prepared concrete, sand/cement screeds and granolithic surfaces
  • Application over suitable terrazzo, ceramic tiles and quarry tiles
  • Application over compatible epoxy, polyurethane and Stopgap membrane surfaces

Notes

  • Prepare a sound substrate, removing contaminants, laitance and incompatible surface treatments
  • Confirm moisture conditions and any required moisture-control system before installation
  • Prime absorbent surfaces with diluted Stopgap P131 and suitable non-absorbent surfaces with neat Stopgap P141
  • Allow the primer to dry
  • Add powder gradually to measured water and mechanically mix for at least two minutes
  • Use approximately 4.25L of water per 25kg bag; above 15mm depth, F. Ball advises reducing this to 4.0L
  • Never exceed 4.5L of water per bag
  • Spread with a smoothing trowel and maintain suitable drying conditions
  • Once set, cap with at least 3mm of an approved Stopgap smoothing compound
  • Follow the selected capping compound’s priming and floorcovering-installation requirements
